Naperville Central’s Payton Thorne (1) calls a play. Allen Cunningham/For the Sun-Times.

Plenty of changes in the Super 25 this week. Simeon made the biggest jump, leaping 10 spots after beating Phillips 21-8 at Gately on Saturday. The Wildcats drop from No. 4 to No. 18.

It’s a new-look top five, with Batavia taking the No. 2 spot followed by Nazareth, Homewood-Flossmoor and Oswego. Lincoln-Way East holds steady at the top after beating Andrew 42-0 in Frankfort.

Despite all the shakeups in Super 25 positioning, no team in the rankings lost to an unranked team. So there are no new teams this week. There are several teams knocking on the door and making a strong case to step in when someone loses.

One of those teams to keep an eye on is Stevenson (3-0), which is allowing just seven points a game and has wins against Palatine, Neuqua Valley and Libertyville. Others just on the outskirts of the Super 25 include Benet (3-0), Providence (3-0), Wheaton-Warrenville South (3-0), Evanston (3-0), and Cary-Grove (3-0).

Three teams have the opportunity to pick up signature wins this week. No. 6 Barrington takes on the Wildkits, No. 22 St. Charles East travels to Wheaton-Warrenville South and No. 19 Huntley takes on Cary-Grove. Those games provide the potential for all kinds of changes next week.
