Thomas Glasco, 51, of Gary, was killed Monday evening when he was struck by a freight train about 7:15 p.m. in the 4100 block of Delaware Street in Gary, Gary police and the Lake County Coroner’s Office said.

Glasco was walking with a friend when they decided to try and cross the tracks in front of the train, police said. The man slipped and fell on the tracks and was struck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
