A 17-year-old boy waskilledin a shooting Tuesday afternoon near an elementary school in the Riverdale neighborhood on the Far South Side, according to Chicago Police.

Deshawn D. James was walking about 1:40 p.m. in the 13300 block of South Calumet when someone in a gray vehicle fired shots, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. Officers responding to a call of a person shot foundhim suffering from a gunshot wound to his head.

Jameswas taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead,authorities said.He lived in the Riverdale neighborhood.

The shooting happened near W.E.B. DuBois Elementary School.
