Headed to Downers Grove North tonight fully intending to give Libertyville star Drew Peterson his moment in the sun.
That didn’t turn out so well. The Trojans held Peterson to six points and won the game. Read all about it.
Downers Grove North beat St. Joseph at Proviso West and then went on a little losing streak to ranked teams. You could see that playing all that top-notch competition has paid off, it always seems to. The Trojans were more than ready for Libertyville. Their future is bright, most of the guys that played big minutes tonight were juniors. I wouldn’t be surprised if Downers Grove North is in the preseason Super 25 next season.
Tonight’s top games
Montverde (FL) 62, Simeon 60: It’s the second time this season the Wolverines have lost a very close game to a team ranked No. 1 in the country by USA Today. Talen Horton-Tucker led Simeon with 26 points, 10 rebounds. Xavier Pinson and Kejauan Clements each scored 10.
West Aurora 59, Jacobs 47: Very nice win for the Blackhawks. Cam Donatlan had 16 points and Jared Crutcher added 13 points and 18 boards. Jacobs was just starting to get some chatter as a dangerous team.
Leo 72, Tilden 67: Interesting score. Tilden keeps it close. Dachaun Anderson had a big night with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Fred Cleveland had 11 points and nine assists.
Notre Dame 61, Oak Park 54: This is a rankings buster. Tends to happen an awful lot over this MLK weekend every year.
Geneva 64, Carmel 46: Very solid win for a Geneva team that has talent but has been very up and down this season. Jack Hood scored 21 and Jack McDonald added 19. Freshman Kimarhi Wilson scored 17 for the Corsairs.
Waukegan 60, Lincoln (IL) 57 OT: The Bulldogs travel down to Lincoln and win in overtime. Huge night for Bryant Brown with 31 points and 12 rebounds.
Herscher82, Momence74: Momence Watch takes a hit as the Redskins go down.
Detroit East English 92, Orr 80: The Spartans lose in Michigan. Dannie Smith had 32 points and ten rebounds.
Benton Harbor (MI) 71, Bogan 70: Tough loss for the Bengals.
Willowbrook 59, Naperville Central 46: The Redhawks stumble their first week as a ranked team.
