A 23-year-old man was shot early Tuesday in the University Village neighborhood on the Near West Side.

He was walking on the sidewalk at 12:57 a.m. in the 1500 block of South Morgan when he heard shots and felt pain, according to Chicago Police. He had been shot in the chest.

The man was driven to Rush University Medical Center, where his condition stabilized, police said.
