A west suburban woman was killed and three men were injured in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday in northwest Indiana.

Officers responded to the crash about 3:15 a.m. in the 3000 block of West 73rd Avenue in Merrillville, according to Merrillville police. The vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons and crashed into a tree.

Kayla Nelson, 23, was pronounced dead at 3:55 a.m., according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

Nelson, who lived in Oak Park, died of blunt force trauma from the crash and her death was ruled an accident, the coroner’s office said.

Three men, all in their early 20s, were taken to hospitals for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life threatening, police said.
