An employee of a retail store was stabbed Wednesday afternoon in the Wicker Park neighborhood.

The 26-year-old saw a group of four teenagers pulling merchandise from a display shelf at 3:54 p.m. while working at a store in the 1800 block of West Division, Chicago Police said. When he walked up to them, one of the suspects stabbed him in the chest and they all ran away.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

Area Central detectives were investigating.
