A 23-year-old man found dead outside Jan. 1 in the South Side Avalon Park neighborhood suffered a fatal gunshot wound, authorities said.

Jaquan Diario Reed was found about 8:50 p.m. in the 8100 block of South Stony Island, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

An autopsy Wednesday found he died of a gunshot wound to the head and his death was ruled a homicide,  authorities said. He lived in the Woodlawn neighborhood.

Area South detectives were conducting a homicide investigation.
