The Bears learned a lot about their team from the coaches who didn’t get the job — particularly from within the division — Pace said.

• • •

Pace said there’s real value in having a young play-calling head coach pair with a young quarterback. Points to the Saints back when he was there. Rams, 49ers among those that have done the same.

• • •

Pace is reiterating that he connected with Nagy beyond just developing Trubisky.

“It’s bigger than that,” he said.

• • •

Pace said all six coaches they interviewed could be head coaches one day. “Matt just said it out of the park,” Pace said.

• • •

Ryan Pace said what we’ve written — that he and Nagy have had a common path to the top in the fact that they started as interns.

• • •

The Bears compiled a reference list of 25 or 30 people per coach.

Pace said he didn’t include Trubisky in the interview process but “I felt like they already knew each other” from last year’s pre-draft process.

• • •

Nagy said Mitch Trubisky wasn’t involved in his interview.

• • •

Matt Nagy got to know Mitch Trubisky better during a six- or seven-hour pre-draft interview in Kansas City. His personality came out. Nagy said Trubisky was probably scripted during the 15-minute NFL Scouting Combine meetings.

• • •

The pillars of a quarterback-coach relationship? “Trust,” Nagy said.

• • •

Asked if he wants to play a 3-4 defense with or without Vic Fangio, Matt Nagy reiterated that 60 percent of defense is played in nickel or dime, so it doesn’t much matter.

• • •

Matt Nagy and Vic Fangio have talked about Fangio returning, but there’s no movement on that. He’s a free agent. “We’re going to attack that full-steam ahead. …” Nagy said. “We’re going to make a clear decision on what’s best for Vic and what’s best for the organization.”

The Bears offered to push back Nagy’s interview Sunday because of the loss. He respected that, and offered to move it up.
