A 26-year-old woman was fatally struck by a vehicle Friday while riding a bicycle in northwest Indiana.
A vehicle making a right turn about 11:30 a.m. from westbound Supply Road to northbound Wicker Avenue in St. John, Indiana, hit Cali Blakeley, who was riding a bicycle south in the 9900 block of Wicker, according to a statement from St. John police.
Blakeley, who lived in Cedar Lake, Indiana, was taken to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Crown Point, Indiana, before being transferred to the University of Chicago Medical Center, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. She was pronounced dead about 9 p.m. on Saturday.
An autopsy Monday found Blakeley died from multiple injuries from an automobile striking a bicyclist, the medical examiner’s office said. Her death was ruled an accident.
St. John police and the Lake County Sheriff’s Accident Reconstruction Team continued to investigate the crash. No charges or citations were issued against the driver.
