Man shot during service at Bridgeview funeral home

A man was shot during a funeral service Wednesday night in south suburban Bridgeview.

About 8 p.m., a group of people started fighting during the service at Hahn Funeral Home, 8230 S. Harlem Ave, when someone pulled out a gun and opened fire, striking the man, according to Ray Hanania, a spokesman for the village of Bridgeview.

The man, who is thought to be in his 20s, was rushed to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with a gunshot wound that wasn’t thought to be life-threatening, Hanania said. After being treated, he ran off from the hospital.

Bridgeview police are now searching for the man and the person who shot him, Hanania said.

However, many of the funeral’s attendees — including several of the people who were involved in the initial scuffle — are associated with a Chicago street gang or family members of those involved, Hanania said. As a result, the witnesses have been reluctant to discuss the shooting or identify the suspected gunman.
