Moon Alert

Avoid shopping or important decisions from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Chicago time. After that, the moon moves from Capricorn into Aquarius.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

This is a tricky day to start your week because relations with bosses, parents and VIPs (this includes the police) are unpredictable. In fact, someone might say or do something that throws you for a loop. Whatever happens, don’t overreact. Don’t shoot from the hip. Don’t quit your day job.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Travel plans very likely will be canceled, delayed or changed today. Or you might suddenly have to travel when you did not expect to do so. Likewise, post-secondary schooling — colleges and universities — will undergo unpredictable upsets. The media might have surprising news.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Double check your dealings with banks, insurance, inheritances and anything to do with shared property because something unpredictable might impact these areas. If so, you want to be on top of things, not sleeping at the switch. Right?

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

A partner or close friend might surprise you today. They might do something you least expect, or perhaps they will demand more freedom in the relationship. There’s an element of independence and defiance in the air! Can you smell it?

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

Your work routine will not go as expected today. Something will occur to shake things up. Computer crashes, fire drills, power outages, staff shortages, lost paperwork or a dispute with a co-worker will put your day in a tailspin. Allow extra time so that you have wiggle room to cope with the unexpected.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

Parents, please be extra vigilant, because this is an accident-prone day for your kids. Meanwhile, social occasions — a luncheon, a meeting, a movie, a sports event — might be canceled or changed. Alternatively, a surprise invitation might come your way! Say yes.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

A domestic upset might take place at home today, especially with your mother or female relative. Don’t get your belly in a rash. You need harmony in the home to be happy. Remember — patience is the antidote to anger. Be understanding and tolerant.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Pay attention to everything you say and do today because this is a mildly accident-prone day for your sign. On the upside, you might have some brilliant, genius-like ideas because you can think outside of the box. Nevertheless, your daily routine will be interrupted.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Keep an eye on your assets today. You might find money; you might lose money. Guard your possessions against loss, theft or damage. On the other hand, respect your moneymaking ideas! If a financial opportunity presents itself, act quickly; but not during the Moon Alert. (See above.)

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Whatever happens today will be unexpected. However, if it’s something that you like, you will have to act quickly because this window of opportunity will be brief. Everything is happening fast. It could be crazy, it could be brilliant.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

You feel restless and independent today. (This is hardly surprising because you are one of the most independent signs of the zodiac!) Nevertheless, you will not take kindly to being told what to do or being herded by anyone else.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

A female friend might say or do something that catches you off guard today. It could be illuminating and helpful. Or it might be something that creates an obstacle for you? Someone might also make an unusual suggestion that causes you to put a new spin on your future goals.

If Your Birthday Is Today

Actress Emmanuelle Chriqui (1975) shares your birthday today. You are confident and assertive. You are also warm, generous and responsive to others. Service to others is your theme this year. Focus on your personal responsibilities to family as well as yourself. Take care of yourself so you are a strong resource. Nurture relationships you value. Explore the arts, enroll in a class. Personalize your home with treasures that have meaning.
