23-year-old man shot to death in Harvey

A man was shot to death early Tuesday at a home in south suburban Harvey.

Officers responded about 4:30 a.m. to a call of an unresponsive person at the home in the 14800 block of Maplewood Avenue, according to Harvey police Chief Gregory Thomas.

When they arrived, officers found 23-year-old Jesus I. Lumbreras laying face down on the basement floor, Thomas said. After rolling him over, they noticed that Lumbreras had been shot multiple times.

Lumbreras, who lived in the same block as the shooting, was pronounced dead at 5:08 a.m., police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said.

The home showed no signs of a struggle or forced entry, Thomas said.

A person of interest who was “very familiar” with Lumbreras has been identified in the shooting, said Thomas, who assured Harvey residents that there was no immediate threat to public safety.
