A woman was fatally struck by Milwaukee District West Metra express train Wednesday night in the Galewood neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

Outbound train 2243 struck 42-year-old Malgorzata Nostal about 6:10 p.m. in the 2300 block of North Neva Avenue, according to a Metra spokesman.

Nostal was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Chicago Fire Department and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. She lived in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

An autopsy Thursday found she died of multiple injuries from the crash and her death was ruled an accident, the medical examiner’s office said.

The train, which left Union Station about 5:45 p.m., stopped near Elmwood Park after hitting her, Metra said. It wasn’t immediately known how she ended up on the tracks.
