While we’re getting the usual “they’re just friends” from Sean Penn and Minka Kelly’s camps, it does appear that the two-time Oscar winner has wasted no time moving on with his life, in the wake of his split with Charlize Theron.

Only two weeks after the former couple made it official — and remained friends, sources insist — Penn was the host of a very special dinner at the world-famous French Laundry restaurant in Napa Valley, California. While Penn toasted Kelly’s 35th birthday with a pricey meal — joined by three other friends — I’ve heard the actor is interested in developing a dating relationship (for starters) with Kelly, who is best known for the TV series “Parenthood,” “Almost Human” and “Friday Night Lights.” She also portrayed first lady Jackie Kennedy in “Lee Daniels’ The Butler.”

A source close to Penn told me Tuesday night, “Sean is a guy who cannot be without woman in his life for very long. That’s just the way he is. … We’ll see how this plays out. Minka does fit the type he likes — gorgeous and brainy.”

Reportedly, Penn and Kelly first met at a benefit for the relief of Haitian earthquake victims, a very important cause for the “Gunman” star.
