The death of a semi driver who was hit by another truck Friday morning on the Dan Ryan Expressway on the South Side has been ruled a suicide.

Agustin Perez, 32, of Berwyn, was driving a 2000 Freightliner semi about 5 a.m. when he stopped on the shoulder of the local lanes of southbound I-90/94 near 31st Street, according to Illinois State Police.

Perez got out of his truck and was hit by a 2013 Volvo truck in the right lane, state police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police and Chicago Fire Media Affairs.

An autopsy Saturday found he died of multiple injuries from the crash and his death was ruled a suicide, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The driver of the Volvo was taken to Mercy Hospital, but his condition was not immediately known, state police said.
