Antonio Reeves, a promising prospect in the Class of 2019, has returned to Chicago.
The 6-5 wing, who attended Kenwood his first two years of high school before transferring to Shadow Mountain High School in Phoenix for his junior year, officially enrolled at Simeon on Tuesday.
Reeves left Chicago last year as his father, Anthony, had a job opportunity in Arizona. He’s returning to Chicago for that same reason.
“I’m excited to be back,” say Reeves. “There is nothing like being home, to be around family and receive support from your family. And the basketball in Chicago is going to make you better, make you tougher and help you improve your game.”
Reeves was a key part of a successful Shadow Mountain team that finished 25-2 on the year, won a state championship and was nationally ranked. Shadow Mountain is coached by former Arizona University great and 14-year NBA player Mike Bibby.
Reeves, who averaged 14 points and 4.3 rebounds a game as a junior for Shadow Mountain, has impressed on the club circuit this spring with Get Buckets.
While Reeves has always been long and lean, the late-blooming talent is now filling out physically and has elevated his overall game. He possesses a soft shooting touch and shoots it with range and efficiency, but he continues to add to his arsenal.
“I was a three-point shooter at Kenwood,” Reeves says of his early playing days in high school. “I’m older, more aggressive, more into the game and a lot more active.”
Reeves, who is among the City/Suburban Hoops Report’s top 15 prospects in the Class of 2019 and is receiving Division I interest, provides a jolt for a Simeon team that returns guard Kejuan Clements and is expected to once again be a preseason top five team.
