A woman was shot Saturday evening in the West Chatham neighborhood on the South Side.

The 29-year-old woman was walking out of a building at 6:42 p.m.in the 8300 block of South LaSalle Street when a male shot her, striking her in the upper torso, according to Chicago Police.

She was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where she was in serious condition, police said.

Area South detectives were investigating.
