An Aurora man was killed when he was thrown from a motorcycle in a crash Thursday afternoon in the west suburb.

Jonathan J. Benavides, 30, was driving a 2012 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle at a high speed about 1:20 p.m., heading south on Eola Road from McCoy Drive, when he lost control while changing lanes, according to Aurora police. The motorcycle hit a curb and Benavides was thrown from the bike and hit a tree.

He was taken to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora, where he was pronounced dead, police said. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The crash remained under investigation by the Aurora Police Traffic Division Friday morning.
