Authorities have identified a 70-year-old woman who was killed in a crash Saturday afternoon in north suburban Lake County.

Katherine Lewis of Grayslake was driving a 2003 Toyota Corolla south about 4:30 p.m. on Route 45 north of West Cottage Avenue when a northbound 2011 Kia Soul driven by a male juvenile crossed into the wrong lane and collided with it, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s and Coroner’s offices.

A fire in the Toyota’s engine was put out by a sheriff’s deputy and Lewis was taken to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where she died Sunday morning, authorities said.

Preliminary results from an autopsy conducted Tuesday afternoon indicated that she died of multiple traumatic injuries from the crash, but results from routine toxicology tests were pending, according to Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper.

The boy, whose age has not been released, was taken to the same hospital with injuries that weren’t life threatening.

The sheriff’s office Technical Crash Investigations Unit was investigating.
