A 52-year-old man was shot during an attempted robbery Tuesday night in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

The man was walking at 9:13 p.m. in the 5200 block of West Iowa when someone approached him, pulled out a gun and announced a robbery, according to Chicago police. When the man resisted, the would-be robber opened fire.

He suffered gunshot wounds to his hip and groin and was taken in good condition to Stroger Hospital, police said.

Area North detectives were investigating.
