An 18-year-old man died after being struck by a vehicle Saturday in northwest suburban South Barrington.

First responders were called about 8:40 p.m. to a traffic crash near Barrington and Terra Vita roads, according to South Barrington police.

Jake Brummitt, of Mount Prospect, was struck by a vehicle in the first block of North Barrington Road and was found in the northbound lanes on Barrington Road, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Brummitt was struck a 33-year-old Palatine man driving a 2010 Nissan Maxima and stopped to call 911 immediately after, police said.

Brummitt was pronounced dead at 9:38 p.m. Saturday after being taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, authorities said. An autopsy Monday found he died of multiple injuries from being struck by a vehicle and his death was ruled an accident.

Police said the driver of the Maxima had not been charged or issued any citations. An investigation into the crash was ongoing.
