A man was killed and another was wounded Saturday morning when they were caught in the middle of a shootout in the South Side Englewood neighborhood, police said.

At 11:56 a.m., the men were working in the 6800 block of South Wood when two males started shooting at each other across the street, according to Chicago Police.

Frank W. Warren, 59, was shot twice in the abdomen, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 12:47 p.m.

An autopsy Sunday found Warren died from multiple gunshot wounds to the abdomen and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. He lived in West Englewood.

The other man, 47, suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to the same hospital, where his condition stabilized, police said.

Area South detectives were conducting a homicide investigation.
