A man was killed and another was critically wounded in a shooting Wednesday night in the Washington Heights neighborhood on the Far South Side, police said.

The two were standing on the sidewalk when they heard shots and felt pain about 9:45 p.m. in the 10500 block of South Peoria, according to Chicago police.

Stoney Jones, 37, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his body. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

A 41-year-old man was shot in the back, he was taken to the same hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

Area South detectives were conducting a homicide investigation.
