A taxi driver struck eight pedestrians on a sidewalk after colliding with another vehicle Saturday afternoon near Navy Pier.

The crash happened about 4:30 p.m. in the 600 block of East Illinois, according to Chicago police.

The eight pedestrians suffered minor injuries and were taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center and Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition, police said. Fire officials initially said the patients were in serious-to-critical condition.

The Taxi Town Inc. cabdriver later checked himself into a hospital, according to one of the company’s other employees.

The crash, which was cleared by about 6 p.m., was unintentional, police said. Additional details were not immediately available.
