Man, 20, shot to death in East Chicago

A man died Thursday after being shot in East Chicago, Indiana.

About 7:49 a.m., a resident waved down police to report an unresponsive person lying in the resident’s backyard area in the 4000 block of Pulaski Street, according to East Chicago police.

Upon entry, officers found Isaiah Pina, 20, of Hammond, near a fence area in the resident’s house, police said.

He suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at 8:45 a.m., according to the Lake County coroner’s office. An autopsy Friday ruled his death a homicide.

The previous night, officers detected gunshots from the area but could not find evidence of a shooting, police said.
