A man was wounded in a shooting Friday night in Washington Park on the South Side.

The 26-year-old was at the park about 9:30 p.m. in the 5500 block of South Russel Drive when he heard gunfire and realized he’d been hit, according to Chicago police.

He was struck in his right leg and was taken to Mercy Hospital, where his condition stabilized, police said. He was going to be transferred to Stroger Hospital.

Area Central detectives were investigating the shooting.
