A pedestrian died Friday afternoon after being hit by a vehicle in west suburban Melrose Park.

The man, identified as 72-year-old Robert A. De Benedetto, was struck at 5:32 a.m. in the 1900 block of Mannheim Road, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. He was pronounced dead about 20 minutes later.

An autopsy conducted Saturday found the De Benedetto died from multiple blunt force injuries, and his death was ruled an accident, the medical examiner’s office said.

Melrose Park police didn’t respond to a request for comment.
