A man was fatally shot Tuesday afternoon as he walked out of his home in the South Shore neighborhood.

At 12:38 p.m., 29-year-old Terrence Brooks was walking in the 2400 block of East 75th Street when witnesses heard three gunshots ring out, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Brooks was later found unresponsive with gunshot wounds to his head and right shoulder, authorities said. He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center and pronounced dead less than 20 minutes later.

Brooks lived around the corner from where he was killed, the medical examiner’s office said.

Area South detectives were conducting a homicide investigation.
