A man was shot while standing outside in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

About 10:38 p.m., the 29-year-old was struck in the ankle in the 5500 block of West Congress Parkway, according to Chicago police.

The man was taken to a hospital by a friend, police said. Area North detectives were investigating.
