A 2-year-old girl died after she was shot in the head Tuesday night in northwest Indiana.

About 6:51 p.m., officers responded to a home in the 1700 block of Polk Street and found Jayla Millersuffering from a gunshot wound to her head, according to Gary police.

Millerwas taken in critical condition to Methodist Hospital Northlake in Gary and then flown toComer Children Hospital, where she died about 9:30 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death was scheduled for Thursday.

OnTuesday, police said officers were interviewing a woman and man who were inside the home.

Police and the Lake County prosecutor’s office continued to investigate Wednesday evening.
