A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle Monday night after jumping from an overpass onto the Dan Ryan Expressway and running into traffic.

Officers responded about 9:30 p.m. for a “suicidal subject” who jumped from the Garfield Boulevard overpass onto Interstate 90/94, Illinois State Police said.

Video posted to social media appears to shows a person by a concrete median walk in front of a passing car. The person is hit by the car and goes airborne.

Paramedics took him to Stroger Hospital in serious-to-critical, but stabilized, condition, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman said.

The person told investigators that he was trying to harm himself, police said.

State police were investigating the crash.
