A Chicago police officer accidentally shot himself Tuesday in Mount Greenwood on the South Side.

He accidentally discharged his weapon about 1:50 p.m. in the 3900 block of West 102nd Street and struck himself in the lower body, Chicago police said.

The officer was taken to a hospital where his condition was stabilized.
