The man, 57, was standing outside his vehicle on the left shoulder near Kedzie Avenue when another vehicle lost control and hit him, officials said.

A man was fatally struck by a vehicle Sunday on Interstate 57 in southwest suburban Markham.

The man, 57, was standing outside his blue Ford pickup about 12:50 a.m. on the southbound left shoulder near Kedzie Avenue when a silver Mercury sedan in the middle lane lost control and hit him and the truck, Illinois State Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

The man was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead about an hour later, officials said. He lived in Shorewood.

The 32-year-old woman driving the Mercury was also taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries, state police said.

The crash remains under investigation, authorities said.
