A 54-year-old man died after he was struck by a vehicle Thursday in west suburban Lisle.

Authorities responded about 5:30 p.m. to the 4500 block of Route 53 for reports of a person hit by a vehicle, according to Lisle police.

Officers found the man unresponsive on the roadway when they arrived, police said. He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where he later died.

The female driver of the vehicle that struck him was not injured, and remained at the scene, police said.

According to a witness, the man was trying to cross Route 53 when he was struck, police said. The driver was traveling at 35 mph, and the area where the man was hit was dark, police said.

No citations were issued, police said.
