An 18-month-old girl from Kenwood was reunited with her family Tuesday only hours after she went missing in what police say was a misunderstanding.

Chicago police said early Tuesday that Kaydense Brooks was last seen Monday with a relative in the 4700 block of South Greenwood Avenue.

Three hours after issuing the missing person alert, detectives canceled the notice, saying that Kaydense had been reunited safely with her family.

A police spokeswoman characterized Kaydense’s disappearance as a misunderstanding.

A witness had called to report the girl missing after seeing Kaydense on a train with her grandfather, believing that the child was taken against her parents’ will, the spokeswoman said.

“It seemed like an innocent thing that turned into something bigger,” the spokeswoman said.

Police initially said the pair may have traveled to the 12th Police District, which encompasses parts of the Near West Side, Pilsen and West Town.

Police said no charges would be filed.
