25th anniversary revival of Cirque du Soleil’s ‘Alegria’ heading to Chicago

In celebration of its 25th anniversary, Cirque du Soleil’s “Alegria” will be returning to Chicago next year for three weeks of shows.

The revival of the production, one of Cirque’s most iconic presentations, will be presented June 5-28, 2020 under the familiar Cirque big top at Soldier Field’s South Lot (1410 Museum Campus Drive).

More than 14 million people in 255 cities across the globe have attended performances of “Alegria” via nearly 20 years of touring productions. According to Tuesday’s announcement, Cirque has revisited the production “through today’s lens — including refreshed costumes and set design, a renewed acrobatic vocabulary, and modernized musical arrangements —to touch new generations of spectators.”

Alegria, which means “joy” in Spanish “takes audiences at the heart of a once glorious kingdom now in decay led by the king’s fool and a dusty aristocracy. Carried by an intangible wind of change, an emerging movement from the streets strives to shake this established order, instilling hope and renewal to bring light and harmony to their world,” the announcement stated.

Tickets are currently available online exclusively for Cirque Club members. General public tickets, starting at $49, will go on sale beginning Dec. 5, at cirquedusoleil.com/alegria.
