A Lake Barrington woman was critically injured Friday when her home caught fire in the northwest suburb.
The Wauconda Fire District responded to the blaze about 4:45 a.m. in the 1100 block of Oak Hill Road in the Lake Barrington Shores community, Wauconda fire officials said.
When firefighters arrived, they found the occupants, including a woman with significant burn injuries, officials said. The woman was taken to Good Shepard Hospital in critical condition.
Crews found heavy smoke coming from a bedroom on the second floor, officials said. The fire was under control about 40 minutes later.
A dog was also rescued and taken to a veterinarian for treatment, officials said. Total property damage is expected to be about $125,000.
While the cause of the fire has not been determined, officials said, it is believed to be accidental.
