Woman, 78, dies in Oak Brook crash

Florence Hsiao, 78, was driving west in a Toyota when she was struck head-on by the driver of a white Nissan who was attempting to pass another vehicle, police said.

Oak Brook police

A 78-year-old woman died Friday after she was involved in a multi-vehicle crash in west suburban Oak Brook.

About 6:50 a.m., a white Nissan was headed east on 35th Street approaching Tartan Lakes Drive when the driver, a 48-year-old Lombard man, tried to pass a BMW in a no-passing zone and collided head-on with a silver Toyota and then collide with the driver’s side of the BMW, Oak Brook police said the BMW driver reported.

The driver of the Toyota, 78-year-old Florence Hsiao of Westmont, was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died, police said. The driver of the Nissan was also hospitalized and his condition has been stabilized.

The driver of the BMW, a 53-year-old man from Glen Ellyn, declined treatment at the scene.

No charges or citations have been announced.

The Oak Brook police’s Major Crash Reconstruction Team and the Metropolitan Emergency Response and Investigation Team (MERIT) was investigating.
