On Thursday morning last week, the top news story was the impeachment of President Donald Trump. You didn’t hear about it on WXRT.

In easily one of the dumbest moves in Chicago radio history, WXRT has dropped its morning news coverage. Instead we can hear the weather and four to six straight minutes of commercials.

Lin Brehmer and Mary Dixon have been a refreshing wake-up team for many years. It is impossible to imagine myopic bean counters being so foolish as to break up Jagger and Richards, Huntley and Brinkley, or Akroyd and Belushi. At least Lennon & McCartney split up over a woman.

If the owners of XRT just want to peddle garbage for profits, they should buy a couple of fast food franchises.

What’s next? A format change to disco?

Travel the world as Canadians?

I remember washing the stairs at an apartment building on “Help the Hungarians “ day at the University of Geneva. The concierge insisted he supply me with lunch and as much wine as I wanted because the “Yanks had freed Europe.“

I remember, as well, a rainy evening at a restaurant in the Whitsunday Islands where an old Australian would not allow my wife and me to pay for any drinks because America had saved his country’s arse at the Battle of the Coral Sea.

This has happened several times during our travels throughout the world.

And now we are scoffed at, almost disdained. Our travel agent, in fact, has suggested that we put Canadian identification tags on our luggage to avoid hassles.

We owe it all to our Vietnam war hero, Donald Trump, and his tribe of toadies who have so blackened the image of America.

And half of us revere this creep. My God.

Why just La Voz?

Now that the Sun Times includes La Voz as part of the Friday paper, will it also soon include sections in other languages? There are Polish, Lithuanian, Chinese, Vietnamese and other nationalities living in Chicago. Just asking.
