Last year I decided to start a new holiday tradition and write “Christmas Letters of Love” to my two sons and daughter-in-law.

I found some holiday paper and matching envelopes and proceeded to write loving thoughts from the heart. I hope they were moved by what I said. I hope they will cherish these pieces of paper and keep them for future reading.

With all of the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, we rush around looking for the right present to buy for a loved one, which many times may get returned or re-gifted or tossed. How many hours do you spend on the internet trying to find the right gift for someone special?

I am not saying not to buy them something, but we have gotten to be such a materialistic society. We have forgotten what the holidays are truly about — the birth of a child.

Family and friends are the important thing. Attend some Christmas programs, enjoy the Christmas lights and remember to express loving thoughts to those you know. A smile to a stranger could make their day.

May your holiday be blessed with family and friends, and filled with loving thoughts from the heart.

CTA goes to China?

The Chicago Transit Authority wants answers and so do I.

Three years ago, the CTA signed a $1.3 billion contract with CRRC Sifang America — a subsidy of the Chinese firm CRRC — for new L cars. CRRC also has contracts for rapid transit cars in Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Boston.

The CTA’s has questions about the use of child labor by CRRC suppliers in the production of the cars.

Here’s my question: Why are Chicago and other U.S. cities even doing business with this company in a Communist country? This is American taxpayers’ money going to the Chinese government.

Who got money in this one?
