Woman struck by semi, killed after jumping on Kennedy Expressway: police

A woman died Saturday night after jumping from an overpass onto the Kennedy Expressway near the West Loop, authorities said.

The 32-year-old jumped from the Madison Street overpass and was hit by the semi as it traveled north on Interstate 90/94, according to Illinois State Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. She lived in the West Side Humboldt Park neighborhood.

Officers responded at 8:25 p.m. and closed down all lanes of westbound I-90/94 at Madison, police said. A semi could be seen stopped near the scene. A person’s body appeared to be covered by a sheet on the expressway in the middle of the lanes.

The Chicago Fire Department said paramedics responded, but did not transport anyone to a hospital from the scene.

An autopsy Sunday did not rule on the cause and manner of hear death pending further investigation.
