Man shot on I-57 on Far South Side

A man was wounded in a shooting early Saturday while driving on I-57 near Morgan Park on the Far South Side.

The 19-year-old, from Urbana, was shot about 1 a.m. while driving southbound on I-57 about half a mile north of 111th Street, Illinois State Police said. The shots were apparently fired from another vehicle.

He pulled off the expressway and stopped at a gas station near 111th and Ashland Avenue to call authorities, state police said. He was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound that was not thought to be life threatening.

His 19-year-old passenger, a man from Georgia, was uninjured, police said.

Troopers closed down all southbound lanes on I-57 until about 3:50 a.m., police said. State police are investigating.
