A shooting early Saturday left a man dead and a woman wounded in the Avalon Park community on the South Side.

At 1:35 a.m, 34-year-old Bud Clarke and a 51-year-old woman were arguing with a 46-year-old man in the 8400 block of South Stony Island Avenue, Chicago police said.

The argument turned physical and the 46-year-old fired shots at them, police said. Clarke was struck in the chest and the woman in the ankle.

They were both rushed to University of Chicago Medical Center, where Clarke was pronounced dead about an hour later and the woman was listed in good condition, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

A gun was recovered at the scene and the suspect was taken into custody, police said.

Area South police are investigating. Charges were pending Sunday morning.
