A man died in a shooting Friday afternoon in the South Side Gresham neighborhood.

Officers called for reports of shots fired about 2:50 p.m. found 30-year-old Justin Canty lying face-down with a gunshot wound to his back in the 8400 block of South Sangamon Street, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he died, police said. An autopsy found he died of multiple gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide.

Area South detectives are conducting a homicide investigation.
