Trains are moving again with extensive delays on Metra’s Milwaukee District West and North Central Service lines after a train hit a pedestrian Monday in west suburban Elmwood Park.

An equipment train struck the pedestrian about 7:30 a.m. near the station at 7600 W. Grand Ave. in Elmwood Park, according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller. Trains were halted in both directions for nearly two hours.

Movement through the area resumed shortly after 9:15 a.m., although trains are operating at reduced speeds near the investigation site, Miller said.

Both the MD-West line, which stops at the station, and the North Central Service line, which operates on the same tracks in the area, are experiencing massive delays, Miller said. Some trains are running express service or operating out of order, while others have been canceled altogether.

Riders are advised to listen to platform announcements for the latest service updates, according to Metra.

Elmwood Park police did not provide additional details about the person who was hit.
