A woman was killed in a crash Thursday on the Tri-State Tollway in southwest suburban Chicago Ridge.

The 40-year-old was driving a blue SUV at 5:25 a.m. when it ran off the roadway and hit the right guardrail on I-294 near Harlem Avenue, according to Illinois State Police.

The SUV then flipped over the guardrail and landed in a ditch, where it caught fire, state police said. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office has not released details about the fatality.

There were no passengers in the SUV and no other injuries were reported, according to state police.

The crash remains under investigation.
