A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle Tuesday in south suburban Calumet City.

John Sutherland, 65, was hit by a vehicle about 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Sibley Boulevard and Madison Avenue, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Officers found Sutherland lying unresponsive on the roadway, Calumet City police said in a statement. Sutherland, who lived in the Poughkeepsie, New York, was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died within an hour, authorities said.

An autopsy found he died of multiple injuries from being struck by a vehicle, the medical examiner’s office said.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with officers, police said. No charges have been filed against the driver as of Thursday morning.
