No one was hurt when a mattress caught fire Thursday at a home in northwest suburban Park Ridge.

Authorities were called about the house fire at 5:29 p.m. in the 1800 block of Birch Street, according to a statement from the Park Ridge Fire Department.

Crews arrived to find the fire “primarily contained to a mattress” in a basement bedroom, fire officials said. The fire was put out quickly with a pressurized water extinguisher and a hose line.

It did not spread to the rest of the home, but the property and smoke damage throughout was estimated at $25,000, the fire department said.

The fire appeared to be accidental, but the cause remains under investigation, officials said.
