A man is facing felony charges after allegedly crashing his vehicle in South Elgin and killing his passenger.

Erik McKay, 27, was taken into custody Monday and charged with reckless homicide, aggravated driving under the influence causing death and multiple misdemeanors, South Elgin police said.

About 2:46 a.m. May 31, McKay was allegedly driving over 100 miles per hour when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed at the intersection of South McLean Boulevard and Stearns Road, police said. His passenger, 25-year-old Amy Carlson of St. Charles, was pronounced dead on the scene.

McKay was allegedly found with alcohol on his breath and marijuana in his system, police said.

McKay was released Monday after posting $200,000 bond, according to Kane County court records.
